Immunation: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses Toward National Wellness

The Month of September had finally started. For some, it is a sign that Christmas Day is coming near. In short, the start of what we call "Ber Months"! But for the students under Science's control, it is the National Science Club Month (NSCM). This is mandated in Proclamation 264, which then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed in September 2002. This year's NSCM theme is "Immunation: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses Toward National Wellness".

The Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) explained the rationale behind the theme as follows: "It is a play on ammunition and immunization. We would like our science clubber to be armed/ to be immune against diseases through imparting knowledge about disease, how they spread etc. Our goal is not only the science clubbers that benefit from this knowledge but also their school and communities and thus leading to national wellness". Their aim truly reminds all of us that prevention is ALWAYS better than cure. I am very glad that celebrations like this are conducted so that we can be aware of what we should and should not do. In this case, this celebration is aiming for national awareness. In this days, this celebration is aiming for national awareness. In this days, being with the flow of the river of changes is truly important so that we are capable of doing the right thing. As years pass by, more and more diseases are being discovered and are scattering in different countries. Some of them still don't have medications discovered and are yet to be made. That's why prevention is the wisest and best thing we could do. By being aware of the causes why this diseases develop, Prevention can be achieved. In this case, this healthful defenses can lead to national wellness.

ALS, Ebola Virus and Measles are some of the diseases scattering in different countries. This diseases are also the ones all of us are afraid to have. With the help of proper nutrition and prevention, I believe that this diseases will extinct. For now, many countries have been whole-heartedly helping this patients who unluckily had diseases that are rare and sometimes have no medications yet. For us who are lucky enough to be disease-free, all we can do for them is to help them financially or by just praying for them.
