Essence of Christmas

Image
It's December again! The winds are getting colder and the nights are getting longer! People are fixing their Christmas Trees. Colorful lights are set to entertain our eyes. Children are  joyfully and happily singing songs in the tune of bottle caps as tambourines and large cans as drums while stopping by on every other house. Every member of the family are gathered around a long table to conquer a bunch of delicious and mouth-watering foods. Yep! The Christmas spirit had finally begun. But it doesn't end here. There's more to explore and learn about the so called "happiest day of the year". Many of us are familiar only with the baby on the manger with mother Mary and San Pedro nearby and Three Kings offering gifts for the new born baby. What about the true essence of it? One is sharing not only of material things but also of ourselves with all our heart. Joy is another one which is a way of expressing our gratitude to the Lord for our saviour had com...

Climate Change

Image
Causes of Climate Change Had there been a time when you observe an unusual weather shifting? For example, yesterday was sunny and now, its surprisingly stormy. That's really disturbing isn't it? But here's what's been sneeking into the nerves of people concerned with this stuff. Climate Change. Possible Effect of Climate Change We all know that every region has particular weather patterns or conditions used as basis in making a move for the people to prepare and be alert for whatever calamity that a country has to face. Today, many people are getting more and more disturbed because of climate change. This is a long term change in the earth's climate, especially a change due to an increase in the average atmospheric temperature. This means that climate change is due to the rise of the Earth's surface temperature. But what caused these temperature rise? According to NASA, it's because of the human expansion of the greenhouse effect, warming t...

Outpouring Hearts and Minds Through Literacy and English Proficiency

Image
November is known for Halloween during the first and second day. But this month is not only for scary and creepy stuffs. It’s also a month to celebrate and bring back the essence and values of reading and the English language as well. This month, we celebrate the English Month Celebration – a celebration showcasing the abilities of students in writing literary pieces, portraying characters from different books and many others. Without further ado, let me start sharing my insights about the said celebration. In the world, there are thousands of languages spoken around the world. But, there is that one unique language that unites them all – English. Anyone from different countries are capable of talking and having a conversation as long as they use one language only. In connection with the theme, “Outpouring Hearts and Minds Through Literacy and English Proficiency”, I can truly understand the importance of the English language. This language is seen everywhere and is used by almo...

EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Image
Everyone has their own rights that should be morally or legally allowed for him/her to have, get or do. In our lives, we have so much opportunity for all of us to fulfill for our goals to achieve and dreams to reach. But because of the unfair or unequal sort of people from rich to poor and strong to weak, all around the world, there are loads of possibilities as proof that every individual’s right and opportunity are absolutely unequal. With these kind of problem, what should every single one of us do to maintain the parity and equality of our rights and opportunities?             They say, ”If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door”, which is right, and will always be right. We create our own opportunities. We should use these to secure our rights and to assure that it’ll always be ours. Not even the richest, not even the strongest can steal a poor weak man’s right. Based on my own observation and ...

My Reflection for the Second Quarter

Image
IMPROVING MYSELF As months go by, encountering problems and challenges weren't new to me anymore. I mean, I was not that surprised like, "Oh no! How terrible my life is. Why do I need to suffer this much. Wasn't it enough to prove that I am capable of addressing this problems and challenges that are trying to push me down?". Instead, I feel grateful. Why? New problems and challenges mean new lessons to learn. And I can proudly and truly say that I learned this inside a classroom and a chair at a corner.  If First Quarter was a challenge for me, this Second Quarter was a thousand times much better. This is because I was capable of having more and more friends that make me even more confident than the last time I was typing my reflection from the past quarter. I can say that this change improved me so much. Changes that of course, has a big contribution for my studies this quarter - more stories to read, more mathematical problems to solve, more discoveries to...

Intramurals

Image
Every school year, there are somewhat day/s wherein we get so excited. One of these is the Intramurals, an event in the school showcasing the student's capabilities and skills in sports. Many students like me are looking forward with these event. Who would't anyway? Two days of a sportsfest-like event, vacancy periods and freedom. Let me start sharing my insights about the recently concluded Intramurals in our school, shall we?                                         September 18-19 were the scheduled days for the said event in our school. The opening program was conducted last September 17, 2014. The highlight of these is the Parade of the players from Grade 7 to 4th Year. On the first day of the Intramurals, I can see faces of excitement and happiness as I enter the gates of the school. The Intams fever had finally began upon watching...

My Teacher, My Hero

Image
When I was still in First Year, our adviser once told us, "You are like clays and we are your molders. We mold you to become better people and to serve others in the future." Until now that I am already in 4th Year, I can still remember this statement of hers. Why? Because that was the most meaningful statement that could define a teacher. Without teachers, there will also be no professions. Without professions, this world will also be like iced tea without ice cubes, it will be worthless, useless and plain world. That's why I consider teachers as saviors for a progressive nation, in short, a HERO.         A hero can fly, right? Teachers can’t. Heroes have superpowers, don’t they? Teachers haven’t. But do heroes impart knowledge? Do they improve us to become better people? Do they answer our questions? Do they eventually serve as second parents to us? Don’t be silly. They don’t, Teachers do. The things they do and the...

Immunation: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses Toward National Wellness

Image
The Month of September had finally started. For some, it is a sign that Christmas Day is coming near. In short, the start of what we call "Ber Months"! But for the students under Science's control, it is the National Science Club Month (NSCM). This is mandated in Proclamation 264, which then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed in September 2002. This year's NSCM theme is "Immunation: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses Toward National Wellness".          The Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) explained the rationale behind the theme as follows: "It is a play on ammunition and immunization. We would like our science clubber to be armed/ to be immune against diseases through imparting knowledge about disease, how they spread etc. Our goal is not only the science clubbers that benefit from this knowledge but also their school and communities and thus leading to national wellness". Their aim truly rem...

Modern Day Hero

Image
Calling everyone who wants to be a hero! Worry no more! You don't need to gather up your weapons and have superpowers. All you need is to have the spirit of nobility, bravery and heroism. It might not be probably lurking on your familiarity and knowledge about the news regarding the heroism of a dog who saved girls who were about to be ran down. Oh, how about the Taxi driver who returned a large amount of money left on his Taxi by a passenger. You had probably read on articles about the OFWs as Modern Day Heroes. Well, we can't judge them for whom they want to consider as heroes because everyone has their own so called "IDOLS" whom they see the qualities of a hero.            Teachers, yes! They are my Modern Day Heroes, why? Simply because without them, there will also be no professions. Aside from their responsibility of answering our questions and filling the blanks in our knowledge and understanding, they ...

Wika ng Pagkakaisa

Image

WISDOM: Workshop In Self Development and Operation of Mind

Numbers will feel very shy on how much I’ve learned for two months in the First Grading Period. Back when I was still in First Year, what I expected were learning the basic studies that a High School student has to learn. Math, Science, English, Filipino, MAPEH, Araling Panlipunan, Values Education and TLE are the subjects that our first adviser introduced to us. But, there was a subject that made me curious, TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education). Electronics is what we studied in the field of TLE when we are still First and Second Year High School Students. When we are at Third Year High School, this is when ICT and I met. I was so excited. Why? Are you kidding? I never thought that using computers (especially surfing the Internet) that my parents hate for me to do and studying that my parents want me to do merged together and luckily, I get to study this subject. Now that I’m a Fourth Year High School Student, our teacher introduced to us BLOGGING. T...

State of the Nation Address 2014

Last Monday, July 28, 2014, the President of the Republic of the Philippines Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA). Almost all of the Filipinos watched the said Presidential Speech. Many of the Filipinos supported and believed in his words but of course, there will always be people who will not learn to settle on what a man can do to make his countrymen become satisfied on his service. Many people criticized him and even conducted rallies to show their disappointment on the way our President runs this country. Everyone had said their different reactions, and I, even a high school student has a reaction to expose.           I heard some people say that this was his best SONA and I definitely agree to them. His SONA this year disclosed almost all of his contributions, projects, and everything he had done. I really admire the way PNoy does this because hereby, he makes his bashers and hater...

Kalamidad Paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan

The Nutrition Month Celebration is held every year particularly on the Month of July. The said celebration aims to promote good health and proper Nutrition. To do this, different elementary and secondary schools conduct different activities and competitions. Most of this contests and competitions are always needed to be relevant to the theme. This year's theme is "Kalamidad Paghandaan: Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan" which focuses on the proper nutrition needed in case of emergencies.                Our school, Ilocos Sur National High School, particularly the TLE Department will never give in if interesting, convincing, and awesome activities are what we are talking about. Every year, the said department never fails to conduct contests and competitions that always has that factor to convince students to join. One example is the food festival. This competition aims to give the students the chance ...

Letter to the President of the Philippines

June 30, 2014 Dear Mr. President,              Good day Mr. President. In this letter, I would like to express my warmest greetings for your outstanding performance as the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines. You made your supporter's votes worth it for never failing them. Although many Filipinos aren't still convinced and contended with your service, you always try your best to pass on the qualities of a president they are looking for. You always do your best to fulfill the needs of your countryman whenever we are in need. You always give attention to the things that needs to be noticed. And for that, I would like to give you a big round of applause.                  I must admit, I wasn't at your back when you were still running for the position you are into now. I was very disappointed when you won the presidential election. But, you got me wrong. So far, you have been showing ...
